Ivo Lazzeroni was born December 5, 1917, in Cicero, Illinois to Laura Mariotti Lazzeroni and Anacleto Lazzeroni. His mother and father were both born in Italy and emigrated to the United States. Ivo ran track at Hollywood High School and graduated in 1935. He was always proud of his association with the school. He continued his education by majoring in journalism at Los Angeles City College. Ivo met his future wife Grace Elaine Mason on campus. They both enrolled at the University of California. Ivo received a bachelor’s degree in 1941. The following year he married Elaine in San Francisco. They both worked in the shipyards while Ivo waited for his draft number to be come up.
After serving in the US Army Engineers, Ivo moved back to Southern California. They lived with Elaine’s mother while he attended the University of Southern California. While staying at Wilton Place with the Mason’s, they had their first child Gracia. After earning his master’s in public administration, he worked briefly for the City of Los Angeles, before enjoying a long and successful career with the County of Los Angeles. Ivo and Elaine purchased their first home in El Sereno. There, the family expanded to include Steven, born in 1949, and Peter, who was born in 1953. Their last child, Laura, was born in 1955, after the family moved to their new home at 524 South Dancove, West Covina.
Ivo was an avid model railroader and a dedicated aviculturist. He was the past president of the Avicultural Society of America as well as his model railroad club. His favorite fall pastime was watching college football games. In retirement he traveled extensively. On one trip to Italy, he had his granddaughter Jennifer and his son Steve accompany him and his wife as they toured from Rome to Tuscany visiting cousins in addition to sightseeing
Ivo is survived by his daughter’s Gracia (Michael) Heywood and Laura Lazzeroni, and his son Stephen Lazzeroni. He had two granddaughters, Wendy (Jim) Clark and Jennifer (Bob) Smithson, and three great grandchildren, Clarinda MacLean, Chloe MacLean, and Emily Smithson, and great great granddaughter Willow MacLean. Ivo was predeceased by his wife Elaine and their son Peter.
