Thomas Scruggs Obituary
Thomas Moffett Scruggs
May 25, 1958 ~ January 1, 2020
Tom was born Thomas Moffett Scruggs on May 25, 1958 in Topeka, Kansas to B.L. and Juanita June Scruggs. Two Years later his sister, Khymbrly Marcella, followed.
They grew up closely among their aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and he told many tales of his memories growing up. He loved to talk about the great times he had pond fishing at farms belonging to nearby relatives and neighbors, of Sunday dinners at his grandparents' house and hunting in the snow. Mostly, he remembered the caring and loving relationships which existed within this close knit family. Tom often spoke fondly of his beloved dad and mom, aunts, uncles and cousins.
At the age of 9, his immediate family moved to California where his dad taught political science at Cal Poly and his mom taught grade and middle school for the Lucia Mar Unified School District. They traveled back to Kansas to reunite with relatives whenever possible.
He attended Arroyo Grande High School and graduated in 1978.
In 1983, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Frances Nunez. They had three lovely children: Lewis Jacob, Sarah Marcella, and Daniel Lee.
As they grew, their extra curricular activities included soccer and little league baseball, which he at times helped coach, and they continued through their teen years. But of all the activities as a family, his favorites were camping in the Sierras and boat and rock fishing. Those were the times he cherished the most: being out in nature and the quiet with the ones he most loved.
During this time, Tom became a press operator for Wallace Computer Services for 23 years. He then worked for the Telegram Tribune for 6 years. He made many friends and among some of his co-workers were people he had gone to school with.
Tom was a loving, kind and generous husband, father, son and friend. He will be greatly missed, but forever loved and remembered.
Tom is preceded in death by his daughter Sarah, his sister Khym, his father and mother, B.L. and Juanita.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, two sons, Lewis and Daniel, Aunt Susie Anderson (Moffett) and many cousins.
