He is survived by: his wife Mary Avelar; his son Leonel Avelar; his granddaughter Julia Avelar; his daughter-in-law Laura Avelar; his siblings, Joe M. Avelar (Natalia) of Arcata, Lucilia Pimentel (John) of Tiverton, RI and Fatima Avelar of Flores; his brother-in-law John Toste (Edite) of Arcata; and also Azores. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
