Maria Inez Montelongo Obituary
Maria Inez Montelongo passed away at 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2021, due to complications in her lungs related to Covid. While he could not be in the room with her, her son Jose was in the hospital, just outside her room watching through a window as she took her last breath. She passed peacefully and was not in any pain.
Maria was the 2nd oldest daughter of Telesforo Montelongo and Rumelda Castro. She came to this country at 16 years old, not knowing anyone or the language but determined to help her parents and siblings back in Mexico, and she did. Any money she would earn, she sent back to her sister to help with their parents.
She was a housekeeper, a nanny and after 25 years working at 107th Street School (our childhood elementary school), was able to retire from the Los Angeles United School District. Once the 3 of us were in school, she began working there to watch over us. She was loved by everyone who met her and was the nicest woman anyone could ever know, always wanting to feed anyone who came through her door.
She was 80 years old and is survived by her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, 2 sisters (Guadalupe and Raphaela) and many nieces and nephews; (son) Ricardo Tapia and his wife Raquel and their 3 children, Noah, Azariah and Selah; (daughter) Leticia Reyes and granddaughter Vivian Olguin, whom she had a very special relationship with; (daughter-in-law) Lorena Tapia and her 2 children Diana Tapia and Ricardo Tapia Jr. and (son) Jose Reyes and his partner Elliott Davis. She always had God and faith in her life and it does provide some comfort knowing she is no longer in any pain and in her new body, without restrictions, up in Heaven watching over all of us. Services will be held graveside at a later date due to Covid.
Condolences can be sent to: Jose Reyes and Familia 894 East Gladwick Street Carson, CA 90746
