He was predeceased by: his parents, John Gill and Matilda Gill; his siblings, William (Bill), Charles (Chuck), Jack, Harry, Jennie, Viola, Annabell (Ann), Dora (Dorothy) and Mary; and his son Walter James.

He is survived by: his son John; his daughter-in-law Laraissa Gill; his children, Daniel Robbins, Violet and Charlotte; and his sister Harriet Shannon. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
