He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Nelson and Hazel Nelson; his wife Pam Nelson; his son Jon Nelson; his stepson Troy Emard (Anna); his son Erik Nelson (Joy); and his stepdaughter Trisha Binstock (Todd). He was also cherished by 5 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local Salvation Army.
