He was predeceased by: his wife Judith Ann Oaks Koehl; his son Joel Norman Koehl; his parents, Russell E. Koehl and Catherine May Geisler (Langlois); his siblings, George Lee Koehl and Carole Koehl Richards; and his sister-in-law Jacqueline Oaks Lyell (Thomas).

He is survived by: his children, John Thomas Koehl, Jr. (Shelly), James Lee Koehl, Jacqueline Rennick (Dan) and Jeff Koehl (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Joshua Rennick (Rebecca), Jacob Rennick (Kayla), Josiah Rennick, Zoey Koehl, Sydney and Madison Middleton; his great grandchildren, Hailey and Teagan Rennick; and his siblings-in-law, Roberta Oaks Dankoski (Pat), Daniel Oaks, Sr. (Kerry) and Marguerite Oaks Keil (Steven).

In lieu of flowers, the family would also appreciate donations to Snowline Hospice of El Dorado.
