He was predeceased by: his parents, James Lloyd O'Connell Sr. and Lillian Lauretta O'Connell; his brother Warren; his wife Geraldine Ruth Williams (Gerry); and his daughter Eve.

He is survived by: his children, Elizabeth Dreazy of Encinitas, Catherine O'Connell of New York City and James L. O'Connell III of San Diego; and his grandsons, Trevor Hackett of New York City and Joshua Dreazy of Oceanside.
