Patricia Ann (Gibbs) Claverie Obituary
September 14, 2021 at 3:30pm, my Auntie Patricia Ann Gibbs-Claverie passed peacefully to be with her husband Jim, daughter Annette, brother Bill, sister Sue, and her mom and dad. I had the great pleasure of getting to know her better than I ever had, over the last year and a half. For that I am grateful.
Pat had simple pleasures, like taking daily pride in a clean house and doing laundry. But she was deeper than that. She was second mom to her brother Bill and my mom Sue. Inside she was a strong woman, having a job at a young age as a ticket girl then manager at a movie house, then an operator at the phone company. She met her husband at the movie theater, he came almost every day to woo her, before she finally relented. Her and Jim married in 1953. They had three kids, 7 grandkids, and 2 great grandkids with another on the way.
She had a second career, after her husband had a few heart attacks and couldn't work anymore, Pat became a teller, then manager, at B of A. She loved that job, and often talked about it with pride. Jim passed, and when she retired, she moved from a lifetime in Sunnyvale, to living near her sister, daughter, and grandkids in the wilds of Camino, CA. Pat lived a quiet life for 35 years on her own. After a lifetime of responsibility beyond her years or expectations, she took pleasure in simple things. But she really did love her family, the only way she knew how, by keeping a clean house and cooking.
By helping Auntie this last year and a half, we found a way to mend and cope with my mom's loss last year, together. I learned stories I never knew. She was the last torchbearer of the Gibbs family story. I will share those stories in my genealogy, but mostly in my heart. I love her, and will miss her gentle strength, and wickedly dry sense of humor that she had to the very end.
