She was predeceased by: her parents, John Solomon and Eileen Solomon. She is survived by: her husband Leonard Filipowski; her brother Stephen Solomon (Norma); her daughters, Kristen Overlund (Matt), Kara Smith (Robert) and Katelen Yantzie (Andrew); and her grandchildren, Hendrix, Kellen, Harlan, James, Emberly, Jordan, Brooke and Gwendolyn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to Carson Elementary School in San Diego Unified School District.

“Gail was a wonderful big sister. She was always supportive and guided me during our initial years after moving from Montreal. She had such a big heart and loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. She didn't have a mean bone in her body, was always cheerful and smiling!. She taught me how to blow bubbles with bazooka chewing gum and explained all the details about Christmas and Santa Claus. She made me proud and I'll always have a special place in my heart for her.
