Edward William Bailey Obituary
Ed Bailey left his life on earth peacefully at Scripps Memorial Hospital on Sept 28, 2024. He had years ago accepted Jesus as his savior and knew this would be the beginning of his new life with our Lord.
Ed was predeceased by his parents Ed and Ethel Bailey and his brother Donald (Darlene). He is survived by his wife of 60 years Connie, son Ed (Nancy), daughter Tina (Brian), granddaughters Jessica and Christina and a great grandchild due to be born in Jan. He is also survived by his sister Charlotte (Carl).
Ed was born in Whiting, Indiana on April 21, 1939. He graduated from Whiting High School and Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for 30 years in the Aerospace and Nuclear industries. He helped design a chestpack for the astronauts who walked on the moon.
After retirement Ed enjoyed traveling in his RV during which time he covered most of the US. He also loved participating in a senior baseball league. Ed spent much of his free time volunteering for a number of organizations including AARP, Santee City Hall, the San Diego Zoo, Mission Trails Regional Park, the Blood Bank, and the Epilepsy Foundation.
Ed loved his family and took great pride in showing off his granddaughters who were the light of his life. He loved animals, especially cats and most evenings one of our four legged babies would be stretched out on the back of his recliner while he watched his westerns on TV. He had numerous bird feeders and diligently kept them full. Ed has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the San Diego Humane Society.
Ed loved gardening and was always sharing his produce with neighbors and friends. He had a passion for yard sales and rescuing treasures others were discarding. He always found time to chat with friends and new acquaintances. He will be deeply missed.
