He was predeceased by: his brother Douglass Grutchfield. He is survived by: his wife Karin Grutchfield; his sons, Scott Grutchfield and Jon Grutchfield (Kim); his stepchildren, Gregory Ries (Julia) and Shelley Carlsen (Darin); his grandchildren, Logan, Ali, KayLee, Tyler, Kelsey, Quinn, Kendall, Noah and Adam; his sister Jane Clark; and his former wife Ruth Kuykendall. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Volunteers of America or the National Parkinson's Foundation.
