He is survived by: his parents, Thomas Place and Lillian Place (Wheelhouse); his children, Nancy, Cynthia and Lee; his siblings, Jodie and Don; and also Eagle Scout. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The cause of his death was complications of Alzheimer's disease.
