He was predeceased by: his parents, John A. Gruber and Lena Gruber; his wife Virginia Claire Gruber; and his children, John Nicholas Gruber Jr. and Kathleen Strang.
He is survived by: his children, Charleen Lam, Patrick, Michael, Maureen Clark, Daniel and Timothy. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren.
