He was predeceased by: his parents, Willem Dotinga and Baukje Dotinga. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Dijkstra (Barteltje); his son Willem (Kristin) of Alto; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie (Mel Vazquez) and Mike (Leah); his son Sid (Cheryl) of Novi; his grandchildren, Megan Aguirre (Eduardo), Courtney, Zac and Brad; his son Melvin (Jane) of Lynden; his grandchildren, Rachel Winslow (David), Joel (Libby), Nicole and Brandon; his daughters, Tina Kampen (Steve) of Visalia and Bea Diepstra (Tom) of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren, Andy (Kelsey), Emily and Nathan; and his sisters, Tine Maring, Joyce Hofstra, Reinskje Dotinga and Siets DeVries (Jan). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to The Navigators in support of Joel and Libby Dotinga or World Renew of the Christian Reformed Church.
