Bart" Emmitt King, 77, of Arroyo Grande, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 5th at Keck USC Hospital in Los Angeles. He left behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Becky King. Born and raised in Fresno, California, he was the son of the late Frank and Virginia King. Bart attended Roosevelt High School in Fresno, graduating in 1958. There, he learned his lifelong passion as a master craftsman. In shop class, Bart gained notoriety at an early age when the wooden boat he built could not fit through the door. Bart made a name for himself working 20 years in the grocery business before moving over to a labor union. There, he worked on numerous projects around California that are a testament to his legacy. He took great pride in the work he did, always sure to show it off if in the area. He was a busy man; always working on his Arroyo Grande home, parading around in his golf cart, and waving at the neighbors. He maintained a beautiful landscape, fruit trees, and even a chicken coop. He saw the world with his loving wife. Some of his favorite places they visited were Italy, Greece, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, and the vast majority of National Parks in their 38 Ft. RV. Point to anywhere on globe and chances are high they were there. In addition to his wife, are his sons, Shawn King and his wife Helen, Troy King, and Bart's only granddaughter, Krystal, whom he loved dearly. In death he joins his only brother Tim, survived by his wife Lillian King of Clovis, CA. A Ceremonial Burial at Sea will be held at the family's discretion. There will be no viewing or receiving time prior to the service. There will be a celebratory wake in his honor following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bart's memory to the Keck USC School of Medicine would be deeply appreciated. Your gift in Bart's memory will support leading-edge research that is helping save and transform lives. You will be missed, Bart.
