He was predeceased by: his parents, Juanita Chappel and James Crossgrove; his mother-in-law Grace Smith; his nieces, Cynthia Williams, Nicole Gibson and Sherri Howard; and his siblings-in-law, James Galbert, Vernon Booker, Shirley Howard and Brenda Booker.
He is survived by: his wife Cassandra Chappel; his children, Dardi Hammonds (Larry), Malcolm Chappel (Norma), Eric Chappel (Desiree), Monique Chappel, Roxane Slaughter (Wes), Michael Russell Chappel (Kathy) and Tami Bialk (Richard); his siblings, Toni Crossgrove, Paul Crossgrove and Selina Jackson; his nephews, Cameron Barnes, Chris Barnes, Ian Crossgrove and Alexander Crossgrove; his grandchildren, Steven Hammonds, Matthew Hammonds, Brandon Chappel, Eric Chappel Jr. and Tristan Chappel; his great grandchildren, Elijah Hammonds and Saxton Hammonds; his siblings-in-law, Celestine Galbert (late James), Cecilia Belue (Eric) and Andrew Howard (Yolanda); and his cousins, Barbara Muse (Ray) and Rea Frances Howard. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
