Jon Ligon Duncan Obituary
Jon Ligon Duncan of Acton, California passed away peacefully on February 28, 2023 at the age of 84 years old. After many months of failing health, he died comfortably at his home with his beloved wife, Andrea, and close family (Lacey, Wes, Jason, Daniel and Leah) by his side.
Jon was born in Hancock, Michigan on September 6, 1938. When he was a teenager, his family relocated to Tucson, Arizona. As an adult, Jon made his way to California where he settled permanently.
As a very young man, he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself. Jon found his calling in sheet metal fabrication and HVAC installation trades, where he realized his dream of building and operating his own business. Jon dedicated his work life to mentoring his employees. He remained a successful business owner and contractor for greater than 30 years until he retired in 2008.
Jon was adventurous and tried his hand at a large variety of activities including yo-yoing, ice skating, pool, racquetball, land sailing, catamaran sailing, and dirt bike racing.
Later in life, Jon found a new outlet that brought him a lot of joy and happiness as a coach of boys little league baseball and soccer teams. He devoted many years, volunteering his time and resources for the teams in his community. He even used his yo-yoing expertise to motivate the boys to practice drills, offering free yo-yos for their hard work and effort.
Jon was passionate and proud of his family, and cherished every moment that he could spend with them.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Kolehmainen (Pelto), brother, Paul William Duncan Jr. and grandson, Trevor Cool.
Jon is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Andrea Duncan, children (Wes Duncan, Lacey Rosenblatt, Jon Patrick Duncan, Gina Cool, Lori Duncan), brother, Peter Duncan, grandchildren (Leah, Daniel, Daisy, Brianna, Emma and Michelle), as well as a multitude of nephews, nieces and great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 14, 2023 at 12pm at Eternal Valley Mortuary in Newhall, California.
