He was predeceased by: his daughter Alda Mares Dougherty (James); his grandchildren, Nicole Heyman (Chris) and Ryan Dougherty; his great grandchildren, Ruari and Saoirse Heyman; his parents, John Mares and Mae Mares of Berwyn, IL.; and his pet Marley.
He is survived by: his brother Paul Mares (Peggy); and his niece Shawn Mares.
He requested that any donations in his honor be made to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, Inc.
