He was predeceased by: his wife Susan Unrast (Moeller); his son Bernard Unrast; his mother Sister Velma Holdheide; and his brothers, Virgil and Marvin.

He is survived by: his children, Ann M. Unrast, Daniel R. Unrast (Boone) and Paul J. (Debbie Unrast); and his sister Bertha Rosenbeck. He is also survived by twelve Grandchildren and fifteen Great Grandchildren.
