He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Debbie Solheid of Tucson, AZ; his stepson Dr. Paul Hoover of Swampscott, MA; and his parents, Edward Solheid and Emily Solheid. He was also cherished by his 5 siblings.

Shortly after retiring in 2012, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.
