“I am grateful for the years I worked with Juan and for all that he taught me. He could both give good advice and was willing/able to trust his team. Juan walked that fine line between us and upper management very sensitively. We had difficult projects and he was such a creative problem solver. When we talked about our families, it was clear he adored his family. My sincere sympathy to Karen and the kids.”

Michael Purcell wrote a sympathy message

“Juan was much loved and will be missed. I worked with him off and on between 1986 and 2014, and he was one of the managers that I most respected and admired. He helped make my job easier, always had good advice, and I hope that I made his job easier. I've been retired for 10 years now, so hadn't seen Juan for several years until John Walkovich invited me to join him at a UofA softball game a few years ago. Juan was there too, and it was a great visit, my last with him.”
