It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joan Cates Gibbons of Tucson, Arizona, born in Alamo, Tennessee, who passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband Jimmy H. Gibbons; her parents, Ada Wilkerson Cates and L. O. Cates (Jack); her siblings, Peggy Loftis and Larry Cates; and her daughter Lucy Gibbons Uselton.
She is survived by: her children, Shewania Holmes (Stan), Donnie Riley and Lee Gibbons (Jody); her grandchildren, Alyssa Holmes, B. Jack Riley, Clint Riley, Hannah Permenter (Dustin), Darla Cox (Tyler), Haley Gibbons Beaird and Preston Gibbons; her great grandchildren, Reyna Aranda, Krista Riley, Reese Riley, Ray-Lee Riley, Lyn B. Permenter, Eliana Permenter and Lynden Gibbons; her sister-in-law Susan Gibbons Jenkins (Harvey); and her uncle James Emerson.
Visitation was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Maury City First Baptist Church (374 N Broadway St, Maury City, TN 38050). A funeral service was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
