He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Ness and Irene Ness (Rau); his wife Eleanor Sterling; his granddaughter Stephanie Sommer; his son-in-law Charlie Carraher; and his siblings, Arlene Medeck and Marlin Ness.

He is survived by: his daughter Ruth Carraher (Keeney) of St. Michael; his grandchildren, Carin Hockert-Hedeen (Jason) and Cory Sommer; his sister Carliss Lucius (Fred); and his sister-in-law Delphine Ness. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
