He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Erick Koivisto and Pearl Josephine Bowie; and his siblings, Erick, Ron and Jeri Nuss.

He is survived by: his sons, Alan Joseph Koivisto (Hannah) and Christopher Lawrence Koivisto (Janice Lea Grim); his sisters, Karla Fernwault (Charlie) and Kristi Koziol; and his siblings-in-law, Eleanor Koivisto (Ron), Julie Pinney (Jonathan) and Mel Nuss.
