We are sad to announce that on February 13, 2024 we had to say goodbye to Jack Hovelson of Surprise, Arizona, born in Osage, Iowa. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was predeceased by: his wife Ruth Hovelson (Vial); and his brother Richard. He is survived by: his daughters, Holly Smith (Don) of Powhatan, Virginia and Lisa Richards of Surprise; his granddaughters, Meghan Resler (Emmanuel) of Baltimore, Kalene Resler (Barrett) of Kathmandu and Lexi Richards of Surprise Arizona; his great grandchildren, Roscoe and Ramona Browne of Kathmandu; and also Lynne Willey (Jim) of Spring, Texas..

In lieu of flowers, general memorials will be directed to an organization or project supporting Iowa journalism, to be determined at a later date.

“Dear Holly and Lisa, I am so saddened to hear of your dad's passing. I was one of his Home Health Aides from the Western Home and I always enjoyed my visits with Jack. He shared many stories about his work and life as I helped him with chores around the apartment. He was such a kind man.
