He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Gilbert and Flo Gilbert; his son Jeff Gilbert; and his children-in-law, Steve Straus (Levi) and Linda Gilbert (Benitez).

He is survived by: his significant other Sara Gilbert (Callahan). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
