He was predeceased by: his parents, Manuel Ortiz Pena and Benina Ulibarri; his wife Angellena Pena; his sons, Dennis M. Pena and Gilbert U. Pena, Jr.; and his sister Emilia Madrid.
He is survived by: his children, Kathy Apodaca and Robin Apodaca; his siblings, Elfigo Pena and Cecilia Pena; his stepsons, Johnny Apodaca, Louis Apodaca and Mike Apodaca; and his children, David, Mario, Angela, Carol and Susan. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
