He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur Johnston and Wanda Johnston (Knodle). He is survived by: his daughters, Deborah Inskeep (Paul) of Robstown and Karen Martin (Wayne) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.; his grandchildren, Ryan Mahannah of Cedar Rapids, IA and Keith Mahannah (Sarah); his great grandchildren, Gavin, Nolan and Jaxon; and his spouse Laverne Johnston (Himmel).

Donations may be made to Shriners' Hospital for Children in Virgil's name.
