He was predeceased by: his daughter Lori Field; his parents, Floyd Schmoe and Ruth Schmoe; and his siblings, Ken Schmoe and Esther Hirabayashi.

He is survived by: his children, Lee Schmoe (Cherie) and Lynne Higerd (Dave); his sister Ruthanna Higley (Donn); his grandchildren, Kristyn Giles (Nathan), Sara Wedel (Jesse), Karen Field, Laura Schmoe, Susan Field (Matt Pudnos), Diana Schmoe and Jon Higerd; and his great grandchildren, Isaiah and Kaila.
