He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerry Hicks and Frankie Hicks; his brother Scotty Hicks; and his son Samuel Hicks. He is survived by: his wife Lanetta Copeland; his daughter Carly Hicks (Lopez); his stepchildren, Lyle Copeland (Ruth), Rusty Toumberlin (Danielle), Brian Toumberlin, Ricky Olivarez (Felicity) and Michelle Dickison; his grandchildren, Nevaeh, Desirae, Dreyten, Rhia, Brantley, Payton, Reagan, Cora, Contessa, Cara, Lilly, Kai and Abigail; his great grandchild Robert Gage; and his siblings, Danny Hicks (Donna), Penny Beasley (Cliff), Donna Fabey, Janie Drews (Mike) and Lori Dickerson (David).
