He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mewhinney and Margaret Mewhinney (Simpson); his wife Pauline Mewhinney; his sons, John Mewhinney and Earl Mewhinney; and his grandsons, Gabriel Mewhinney, Calvin Mewhinney and Jeremy Turley.

He is survived by: his children, William Mewhinney (Debra) of Tucson, Michael Mewhinney (Lisa) of Phoenix, Richard Mewhinney (Mary Kay) of Cornville and Starletta Turley (Larry) of Holbrook; and his brother Nathan Mewhinney (Heather) of Florida. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
