He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Gilbert and Amy Gilbert; his siblings, Drue, Bill Gilbert, Thelma (Hogland) and Mildred (Wessing); and his wife Barbara.

He is survived by: his children, Anson Gilbert (Diana) of Mesa, Shelly Varela (Joe) of Cottonwood and David Gilbert (Dinh) of Mesa. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
