He was predeceased by: his wife Lucia Swoger; and his brothers, Richard "Dick" Spurling (MI) and Kenny "Chops". He is survived by: his grandson Thomas M. Mathes III; his siblings, Robert "Bob" Swoger of Cincinnati, OH, Shirley and Peggy Martens; his daughters, Laura L. Swoger of Mesa, AZ and Carol L.; his grandson Robert O. Mathes (Abigail); and his great grandchild Gabriel Garcia.
