He was predeceased by: his parents, Lillie White-Smith and Thomas Smith; and his siblings, Thomas Smith Jr., Chris Smith and Rosie Childs.
He is survived by: his wife Gladys Martin; his siblings, Calvin Smith, Shirley Smith (Willie) and Diana White; his children, Trinetta Roberts (ED), Melvin Smith Jr. (Deborah) and Melba Hale (Jerome); and his grandchildren, Jabari, Zaka, Taveris, Kalif, Danae, Ellesia, Faith, Melva, Melba, Tyrone and Anfernee. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
