Vyrn Davies Muir Jr. Obituary

Vyrn Davies Muir Jr died peacefully on November 4, 2022 in Apache Junction, AZ. He was born on March 4, 1941 in Jackson, MN to Vyrn and Petra Muir. Vyrn graduated from Jackson High School in 1958. He joined the Army in 1960 and served until 1966 and enjoyed his time in Germany while he served. Vyrn graduated from Mankato State University with a mathematics degree in 1965.

Vyrn moved to Cleveland, Ohio and worked at Lincoln High School as a math teacher. This is where he met the love of his life, Barbara Hann, whose students conveniently needed to use his pencil sharpener. They were married on June 1, 1968 in Pittsburgh, PA. He was able to juggle marriage and work to earn his Masters in Mathematics from Cleveland State University in 1970. They moved to Coon Rapids, MN in 1970 and made it their home for 51 years. They were blessed with three wonderful children, Mollie, Vyrn III and Amie. Vyrn was a patient father and attended all of his children's games and events through grade school to college. He would even attend games while they were coaching. He was most proud of his family and all the accomplishments they achieved. His children and grandchildren will miss his odd sense of humor, which several of them have inherited from him.

Vyrn loved to teach math and help students to see where math was useful in their lives. He taught in Minneapolis Public Schools for 30 years and Anoka Community College for over 20 years. Vyrn helped all three of his kids with math through their college years and kept the trend up with his grandchildren until the time of his death.

Vyrn retired in 2000 and while he waited for his wife to retire, he enjoyed playing bridge around the country. He was so good at bridge tournaments that he became a Life Master. In retirement, Vyrn and Barbara enjoyed traveling around the country, the world via cruises and visiting their children and grandchildren. In 2004, Vyrn and Barbara bought a home in Apache Junction and would travel down each winter to enjoy the warmth of Arizona's winters. Each September, Vyrn couldn't wait to drive down to Arizona and would attempt to find a different route each time.

Vyrn is survived by his wife, Barbara, children, Mollie Muir, Vyrn (Trish) Muir, and Amie (Murry) Westberg, and his grandchildren, Sydnie Muir, Tyler Braunhausen, Vanessa Muir, Vyrn IV Muir Kaylie Westberg, Miley Westberg, Kaia Westberg and his great grandson, Oliver Braunhausen, brothers Craig (Liz) Muir, Donald (Sandy) Muir and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Jamie, parents, father and mother-in-law, sister Nancy Merry and brother Richard. A memorial service will take place in Gold Canyon, AZ at the Gold Canyon United Methodist Church. on Thursday, November 10 at 2:00 pm. There will also be a memorial service in Minnesota at a later date.
