He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Barnes and Aileen Barnes; his son Gary David Barnes, Jr.; his brother Bill Barnes; his nieces, Nora Barnes and Angela Carey; and his nephew William Barnes.
He is survived by: his daughter Katrinna Barnes-Matthews (Billy Rice) of DeWitt; his friend Jonathan Clayton of Jonesboro; his grandchildren, Gary David Barnes, III, Natallie Allana Barnes and Lani Jane Matthews; and his siblings, Roy Barnes, Jr. (Mary), Fred Barnes, Bobbie Barnes (Dee), Barbara Sajtos, JoAnn Wortmann and Carolyn Summerlin. He is also survived by twenty five nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
