He is survived by: his uncle Duck; his parents, Cornelius Merritt and Rosie Merritt; his family Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church; his siblings, Elmira Terry, Cleophas Merritt, Vernatine Fletcher, Bernice Gaynor, Clyde Merritt and Leonard Merritt; his children, Tammie Mooreland Cade (Sam) of Palatine, Tena Paul of Tulsa and Clifford Scott; his sisters-in-law, Ruby Bradley of Pine Bluff, AR and Jewel Phillips of Olympia Fields; his nieces, Cathy Clark of Pine Bluff and Bettye Turner of Pine Bluff; his cousin Bernice Terry of Sheridan; his close friends, Andrew Wilson of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. and R. L. Tisdale of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.; his grandchildren, Rachel Mooreland of Chicago, Miles Mooreland of Rancho Cucamonga, Jaxon Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma. and Julian Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma.; and his wife Yvonne.
In recent years, he loved going to church, even during COVID-19, when he enjoyed church in his recliner.
