He was predeceased by: his child Dale Earnhardt; and his parents, James Otho "Hank" Merritt, Jr. and Carolyn Sue Small Merritt. He is survived by: his sons, Kyle Merritt of White Hall and Will Merritt (Lynn) of Sherwood; and his sister Vickie Merritt of Texas.
