He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Joe David and Marguerite Whittemore; and his siblings, Joe David Jr., Robert and Becky.

He is survived by: his son John Douglas Whittemore (Ashley) of San Antonio, TX; his wife Cecilia; his sons, Joe David (Taylor) of Austin, TX, Robert (Meredith) of Nashville, TN, Daniel (Haley) of Gulfport, MS and Nick of Austin, TX; and his grandchildren, Lawson, Hudson, Magnolia, Tripp, James Howard and Harrison Rye.
