He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Patterson and Addie Patterson; and his sister Barbara Patterson. He is survived by: his siblings, Donald Patterson (Shirley), Betty Corbell (James), Dorothy Wright and Mary Holcomb (Manuel); and his children, Brian Patterson (Karen), Aaron Patterson (Brittney), Sandy Patterson (Chris), Leslie Blackwood (George), Charlotte Crone (Jeff) and Amanda Black Highfill. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
