He was predeceased by: his parents, Minnie Carpenter and A. W. Carpenter; and his wife Jeanett Carpenter. He is survived by: his daughter Christabelle Carpenter; his stepsons, Craig and Jerry Dozier; his sisters, Mary Ellen Screeton, Betty Turner (Willie) and Rachel Carpenter; his friend Fran Garrouette; and also Dr. Richard Carpenter.
