He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Grover and Ida McKinley Hesslen (Riddle); his former wife Violet Louise Hesslen (Gregory); his daughter Cecilia Peer; his grandson Shane Burns; his son-in-law Burl Ray Burns; his siblings, Mabel Watson (Bob) and Benjamin Arvid Hesslen (Bernice); and his niece Ida Mae Crosson.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ann Hesslen; his children, Sharon Burns (Bill King) and Benjamin "Buddy" Hesslen (Leanna); his son-in-law Charles Peer; his children, Danny Kimes (Martha), April Wells (Jerry) and Tony Kimes (Leslie); his grandchildren, B. J. Burns, Jordan Peer Thomas and Benjamin Christian Hesslen (Emily); his great grandchildren, Collier, Londan Buck and Ada Hesslen; and his nephews, Gayle Hesslen and Bobby Watson. He is also survived by grandchildren and sixteen bonus great grandchildren.
