Junior Ray Carter Obituary
Junior Ray Carter, 82, passed from this life on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. He lived his entire life in the McCormick and Trumann communities. He was born August 12, 1941 in Harrisburg, AR to L.T. and Lucille (Holt) Carter. Junior grew up in a large family and was the 4th of 10 children.
Early in his high school years, Junior met the love of his life. He and Patsy (Ruffin) were married soon after graduation. They were currently awaiting the celebration of their 64th wedding anniversary in July.
During the 23 years he was employed at the Singer Company in Trumann, Junior worked in Quality Control, served as the Director of Security, and later became the Employment Manager for the Trumann plant. The title of "Public Servant" is the perfect description for Junior. He became a Volunteer Fireman for the City of Trumann in 1974. He was a Reserve Officer for the Trumann Police Department, where he also worked as a part-time Radio Dispatcher. He was a member of the Poinsett County Search and Rescue Team where he led and assisted in many rescues and recoveries throughout Poinsett County and the surrounding areas. Junior was also an Arkansas Game and Fish Wildlife Instructor for a short time. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and has served as the Past Master with the Trumann Masonic Lodge. In 1982, he began working as a full-time Fireman for the Trumann Fire Department. Captain Junior Carter was named as Fireman of the Year in 1999 before his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Trumann. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and woodworking. He was quite the craftsman in all 3 areas.
Junior was proceeded in death by; his parents; 3 brothers and 2 sisters: William Carter of Trumann, AR, Robert Carter of Memphis, TN, Larry Carter of Santa Fe, NM, Patricia Muse of Owasso, OK, and Deborah McInturff of Jonesboro, AR, 3 nephews and 1 great nephew. Survivors of Junior include; his wife: Patsy, of the home; 2 daughters and 1 son: Theresa (Rusty) Jones and Missy (Tim) Moody both of Trumann, AR, and Jamey (Amanda) Carter of Jonesboro, AR. He is also survived by 2 brothers and 2 sisters: Jimmy Carter of Harrisburg, AR, Bonnie Harvey of Owasso, OK, Peggy Wright and Mike Carter, both of Trumann, AR, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the First General Baptist Church, 15765 Promised Land Lane in Trumann, AR. Visitation with family will be at 1:00 pm with the service immediately following at 2:00 pm. Burial will be at Willis Cemetery in Harrisburg, AR under the direction of Faith Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be Junior's 6 grandsons: Duston Jones, Travis, Trent and Trey Moody, and Jaxton and Jace Carter. Honorary pallbearers will be his 3 granddaughters: Lindsay Miller, Anna Cooper and Amelia Carter.
