He was predeceased by: his parents, Mathis Sylvester Fort, Sr. and Minnie Ola Lockhart Fort; his former wife Evelyn; his siblings, R. E. Fort, Sr., Seaony Fort Lomax, H. M. Fort, Grace Lee Fort Gouldsby, Mathis Sylvester, Jr. and Ostine Fort Hearon; and his grandson David Fort.
He is survived by: his wife Ernestine; his siblings, R. T. Fort, Everett Fort and Willie Fort; his sister-in-law Viola Holmes Fort; and his children, James (Gertrude), Sandra, Gerald (Terri), Edith, Deryl (Lois) and Eric. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, his FAVORITE nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
