He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas A. Bates and Susie Brown Bates; his wife Amelia Neal Bates; and his son Gordon Bates. He is survived by: his sons, Jimmy Bates of Mountain Home and Timothy Bates of Texarkana. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
