He was predeceased by: his parents, J. B. Merritt and Lillie Marie Wilson Merritt. He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Irons Merritt; his sons, Jay David Merritt (Rachel) and Jamie Merritt (Kristi); his grandchildren, Tristen, Hannah, Tera, Jaycee and Jacob Merritt; and his great grandchildren, Izabella of Star City, Remmi of Star City and Stetson of Star City. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
