He was predeceased by: his parents, Grady Hillman Cathey and Lula Mae Dunn Cathey; his son Charles Michael Cathey; his siblings, Gurlayne Cathey, Thelma Jean Redding and Grady Hillman Cathey; his nephew Lewis Hillman Wray; and his brothers-in-law, Joe Nash and Richard Nash.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Nash Cathey; his children, Dr. Steven Lynn Cathey, John Haltom (Mylinda) and Kayla Haltom Hebert (Matt); his grandchildren, Michael Riley Cathey, Elizabeth Lynn Cathey, Camille Hebert, Elise Hebert, River Haltom and Anna Haltom; and his siblings-in-law, Lula Mae Cathey, Jacque Ford (Danny), Camile Lenderman (Don), Darlene Nash, Janie Held, Charles Nash (Joyce), Danny Nash (Betsy) and Dewayne Nash (JoAnn).
