Howard Glenn Boyd Obituary
Howard Glenn Boyd was born March 5, 1930, in Wewoka, Oklahoma and received his eternal reward on December 13, 2022, after a long, full life of devotion to his family, friends, and his Lord. Glenn was dearly loved and admired by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His loving spirit, patience and kindness were evident to all, and in every situation, Glenn could always be found with a smile and referred to as a gentleman. Mostly, Glenn’s lifelong unwavering love, dedication and service to the Lord is what always stood out. His Christian example and legacy will live on and continue to reach people around the world.
Glenn was born the youngest of 8 siblings and came from a very close, loving, Christian family where he recalled his family “always centered around the Church”. Growing up Glenn enjoyed singing, especially harmony (alto, tenor, then bass). He sang with his family, in church, in the school chorus, and two quartets as bass. As a young man, Glenn was already very responsible and held several jobs, working in his father’s grocery store, a paper route, dry cleaners, and others but always knew he wanted to be a preacher and song leader. Glenn attended Harding College in 1948, where he met his future wife, Shirley Pegan. After graduating, Glenn and Shirley were united in marriage on December 19, 1952 at College Church of Christ. Glenn and Shirley moved to South Point, Ohio, where Glenn served in his first “full-time” preaching position. In March of 1958 Glenn and Shirley moved to Karlsruhe, Germany as missionaries with a small established church, Gemeinde Christi. In 1966, they were invited to move to Heidelberg, where he served as director of the Pepperdine Year- in- Europe program, in addition to continuing to preach at the church in Karlsruhe. Glenn and Shirley both taught German at Pepperdine and helped establish the Heidelberg Bible school. While in Germany, Glenn and Shirley were blessed with the adoption of their first two children: Janet born in 1958, and John born in 1961; In 1968, they received another blessing when Shirley gave birth to Jayson. In 1973, the Boyd family moved to California, continuing their work with Pepperdine, teaching German, serving with the Year-in-Europe program where Glenn worked as director, and preaching at various congregations, including helping to establish Conejo Valley Church of Christ, where Glenn served as an elder. In August 1981, the Boyd’s were invited to Searcy Arkansas, where Glenn was asked to serve as president of the African Christian Hospital foundation, later to become International Health Care FDN. He worked as president until he retired in 2000, but continued to work until 2006 and still volunteered two days a week until 2021. Glenn and Shirley were active members of College Church of Christ, where Glenn served as an elder for over 30 years. April 7, 2012 Glenn and Betty Davis were married in Searcy Arkansas and were blessed with 10 years of marriage. Glenn and Betty enjoyed many celebrations, trips, visiting with friends and family and continued to actively serve the Lord at College Church of Christ.
