He was predeceased by: his parents, Ephus Hays and Lillie Hays (Guthrie); his wife Betty Lou Hays; and his brothers, Ralph Adams and Melvin Hays.

He is survived by: his children, Phillip Hays (Anna Nottmeier), Michael Hays (Becky) and Nancy Davis (Jamie); and his sister Jurine Roberts. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren.
